I've loved handbags ever since I saw a picture of Audrey Hepburn sitting with an old Louis Vuitton suitcase. The simplicity of style. Yet, it made me think of the old fashion Jane Austin characters with the tiny waists and big flowy dresses stepping out of their coaches and standing before a train or boat for an elegant excursion. To me everyones' handbag should tell a story of how they feel underneath their clothes. A bag should tell if you are a romantic, a modernist, classic fan, or if you are having one of those days that just needs color. (Shoes can also do a good job of story telling, but I want to remind you that only one accessory should speak at a time).

DRAWSTRING
A bucket, but with a drawstring closure.
BASKET
can be open or closed. The body is made with woven wicker or straw.
HOBO
I’m sure you’ve heard all about this one, with its recent popularity. A large, soft bag that just sort of folds into itself when hung from your shoulder. It usually has a sipper and a shoulder strap.
BIRKIN
TOTE
aka the shopper. An open-topped bag with strap-like handles. This bag is made with a sturdy material and often sported in cities where durability counts.
BUCKET
WRISTLET
A personal favorite for bars and places where you don’t need to take much, but also don’t want to keep track of your bag all night. This is a small bag with a thin strap to dangle from the wrist.
Think of the Hermes classic, the Kelly Bag.
A round-bottomed, open-topped bag. Great for its practicality.

LEATHER BAGS
Keep these dust-free. You can wipe them clean with a damp cloth, but if you use a special cleaning product remember to not use too much. Many highend bags can also be taken to the store of origin for a face lift.
FABRIC
Any lint brush or roller will help to eliminate annoying add-ons like cat or dog hair as well as clean up other things.
PATENT LEATHER

Bags with Rhinestones or Satin are best left to the experts. Dry Clean Only.
SUADE
All handbags should be stored in a cool place, away from heat and direct sunlight. Keep the cloth bags that often come with handbags, because they should be stored in these instead of a plastic bag. Tags to identify which bag is which, is a good idea, especially if you have a favorite designer and many of the same soft cloth bags.
Can also be washed with a damp cloth and a mild detergent.
An art eraser is perfect for removing slight marks, but don’t press to hard or try to get out something that clearly is not slight.
